EL

The St. Clair County Schools offer services for English Learners,(EL) and the county supports this growing population by providing three county EL teachers with Title III budget. School personnel identify limited-English proficient (LEP) students. All new students are given a Home Language Survey to be completed by the parent or guardian upon enrollment. If the Home Language Survey indicates that a language other than English is spoken at home then the students are screened by the EL teacher. Students deemed limited-English proficient are provided the opportunity to receive English Learner instruction in addition to all other programs and services without regard to residential status. The placement of any LEP student will be in the best interest of the child. A push-in/pull-out program is in place in which the EL teacher serves students and supports the district’s language immersion program. Translators are used to communicate with parents and students when needed. Our district's primary focus for our Hispanic population is presently in the areas of Steele, Ashville, Odenville and Moody.
