Instruction Department

InstructionThe St. Clair County School’s Department of Instruction emphasizes sound, research-based instructional practices in all facets of K-12 curricula. The basis for all instructional planning in St. Clair County centers around providing students with opportunities to deepen their ability to creatively think, work collaboratively to problem solve and analytically innovate to show mastery of skills. Instruction in all content areas is rigorous and matched with assessments that are equally challenging. Teachers make learning relevant to 21st century challenges and prepare students for either college or the workforce.

The mindset of instruction in St. Clair County stems from the 12-K approach. Teachers instruct daily with the clear understanding of what students must be able to do well upon graduation from high school. Also, St. Clair County teachers use the three-tiered model of instruction. Tier one encompasses a rigorous, strategic approach to content delivery. In tier one, students have multiple opportunities with the teacher and with peers to practice mastery of skills. In tier II, students have the opportunity to receive a re-teach of deficient skills from tier one. Teachers often meet with students in small groups to simplify steps so that mastery is easily obtained. Finally, tier three offers students performing below grade level with scientific-based interventions which are intended to accelerate their learning so that grade level work is achievable.

St. Clair County Schools places a tremendous importance on quality instruction and we believe it propels all students to a place where they can meet their full potential.
