Steele
Junior High School is one of the best kept secrets in St.Clair County! Steele
Junior High serves 240 students in grades K-8. Steele consistently leads the
St.Clair County School System in standardized test scores which include the SAT
10, Alabama Direct Writing Assessment, and the Alabama Reading and Math Test.
Kindergarten through Second Grade is assessed and monitored via the DIBELS test.
Steele Junior High is known for "Excellence in Education." The curriculum is
strong in academic subjects: Reading, Writing, Language, Math, Science, and
Social Science. The curriculum is balanced by daily physical education and
enrichment classes which include computer education, library, and art
exploration. SJHS utilizes the following programs: Accelerated Reader, STAR
Early Literacy, STAR Reading, STAR Math, and Edutest to assess students' reading
and math levels at the beginning, midpoint, and end of each school year.
Networked computers with internet access are available in all classrooms as well
as the Library Media Center and Computer lab.
Extracurricular activities offered include: Academic Teams (Scholar Bowl, Beta Club) Athletic Teams (Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Cheerleading, and Band) Parents are encouraged to volunteer, attend activities, and participate in their child's education by joining Steele PTO.
