St. Clair County Personnel Department will not be taking applications for substitute teachers or CNP workers, until further notice!
Substitute Teachers
If you would like to become a substitute teacher with the St. Clair County Board of Education, please follow the steps listed below. All paperwork must be completed prior to making an appointment with Cogent Systems for fingerprinting.
- Applicants must be at least twenty (20) years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Substitute applications may be downloaded and printed and a signed copy must be mailed or returned to the Central Office. Please include attention Cathy Alverson or email a copy to cathy.alverson@sccboe.org

I-9 Form PDF Version Download Version - The following items must be submitted along with your completed application.
Copy of your drivers license
Copy of your social security card
Results from a negative tuberculosis test taken within the last year.
Copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate, college diploma or official transcript.
A certified check or money order for $54.15 made payable to Cogent Systems. This is for your background clearance.
A certified check or money order for $30.00 made payable to the State Department of Education. This is for your substitute teacher certificate. - You may make payment online at http://www.cogentid.com/al
A teacher license may be obtained at http://www.alabamainteractive.org/education
- When you have all of the above completed, please register with Cogent to set up an appointment to be fingerprinted. All information regarding fingerprints will be in the substitute packet.
- You will need to attend one of the substitute teacher workshops prior to being approved.
- Once your application is complete, your background check has cleared, and your substitute teaching certificate has been issued, you will then be placed on an agenda for board approval.
- After being approved, you will be mailed a copy of your certificate and schools will be notified that you are now an approved substitute teacher. You will need to pick up your substitute teacher badge at the central office prior to working. Your ID badge can be made at the workshop or the Central Board office. Please call for an appointment.
Substitute Lunchroom Workers
If you would like to become a substitute lunchroom worker with the St. Clair County Board of Education, please follow the steps listed below. All paperwork must be completed prior to making an appointment to be fingerprinted. The packet of paperwork is available at the Central Board office.
- Applicants must be at least twenty (20) years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- The following items must be submitted along with your completed application.

You will need to pick up your ID badge at the Central Board office prior to working. The ID badge can be made at the workshop or the Central Board office. Please call for an appointment.
