Technology Department
The St. Clair County School System is continuing to equip its students and teachers on all grade levels with the most advanced learning resources. Interactive white boards, automated response systems, tablet notebooks and interactive technologies are among the tools provided in many of the classrooms. Teachers utilize on-line instructional tools, such as wikis, podcasts, blogs, gaggle and other Web 2.0 resources. Through the exposure to 21st Century classrooms, we are preparing our “digital native” students for a global workforce, rich with diverse thinking skills and technology. Last year, the St. Clair County Board of Education added a Technology Integration Specialist to our Technology Team. This specialist provides professional development and onsite support to administrators, teachers, support personnel and students. Our Technology Team consists of five personnel including the director. This team works diligently to ensure that the seventeen schools, the career tech center and the alternative school/day program along with the central office have the capabilities to communicate and to instruct on a daily basis.
Because the technology team serves multiple agencies, it is referred to as the St. Clair County Technology Cooperative. This team not only supports a large school system but it also supports all government offices in Ashville and Pell City, as our county is the only one in Alabama with two county seats. The team supports and builds all servers, supports the network infrastructure, and supports the MDT project (mobile data terminals in police and fire vehicles all over the county). This partnership with county government allows all stakeholders to work together particularly in safety and crisis situations within the district that require cooperation with emergency personnel.
Technology Integration
Technology integration is the responsibility of all teachers K-12. Some schools have designated computer classes while others incorporate technology into a rotation of lab time for students. Best practice involves teachers integrating it into the curriculum. Below are the Technology Course of Study Standards for each grade:
K-2 - PDF Version
3-5 - PDF Version
6-8 - (all students assessed on technology proficiency in 8th grade) - PDF Version
9-12 - PDF Version
